Business Registration Program Roundtable @ Stevenson Ranch Library on Tues Sep 25th from 6-7 PM

September 25, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

A Business Registration Program roundtable the County’s Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) is hosting on Tuesday, September 25 from 6-7pm at the Stevenson Ranch Library (Valencia Market Place, Old Road/McBean). The DCBA is hosting these roundtables to get input from business owners, business organizations, and other stakeholders on the program and potential program services.

The motion to develop a draft plan for a Business Registration Program was introduced back in February 2018 and was approved by a 4-1 vote (Supervisor Barger voted no).  In the initial drafts of the program they are proposing a fee (up to $185) to register businesses into a singular, universal database.  In addition to collecting data on businesses in unincorporated County areas, the County would then use the database to connect businesses to County vendor contracts, support programs like employee training or loan programs, and other County services.  The potential business registration program would only effect those businesses in unincorporated communities that are not required to be licensed by the LA County Dept of Public Health (typically licensed businesses have a nexus to health, wellness, or safety). The program, if implemented, would initially only effect brick-and-mortar businesses, but there is a belief it could be expanded to online and/or home-based businesses as well.  The number of businesses this is estimated to effect throughout unincorporated LA County is about 8,000.

In addition to attending the roundtables, stakeholders can also submit their opinions using an online survey (Link: ).

Supervisor Barger opposes this effort because she believes there is no evidence that this would benefit our local businesses and adding another fee to businesses goes against the County’s effort to expand, support, and retain small businesses that create jobs and help our economy prosper.

It is important for the other Supervisors to hear from their constituents in their districts as well, so please feel free to share this information with any friends/colleagues you may have in other Supervisorial Districts.
